Gewürztraminer from "East Hill."
46°F and falling.

Navarro's crew has been picking since 2 am and will continue until 10 am.

Picking under 60°F reduces the effect of oxidizing enzymes.

Cooler grapes make better wine; fresher flavors and less bitterness.

A generator-powered light illuminates several rows. Pickers also use LED headlamps.

"Deleafers" work ahead of the pickers, stripping leaves around the grapes.

Two tractors work in rotation to bring just-picked grapes to the winery.

A crew sorts out leaves, green grapes and other debris from the harvested crop.

The crew leaders pass buckets back and forth so pickers can stay in their row.
